Vichy "UNESCO"
Some cultural and natural heritage sites are priceless and irreplaceable, which is why the UNESCO World Heritage Convention was created in 1972. These sites have outstanding universal value for humanity and must be protected, preserved, and passed on to future generations.
Under the name Great Spas of Europe, the 11 most representative cities of European spa culture joined forces to submit a collective application for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
On July 24, 2021, the 44th World Heritage Committee inscribed the 11 Great Spa Towns of Europe, including Vichy, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, recognizing their outstanding universal value.
This transnational property is acknowledged as an exceptional testimony to the European spa phenomenon, which reached its peak between the 18th century and the early decades of the 20th century. The preserved springs, thermal establishments, promenades, opera houses, theaters, music pavilions, railway stations, parks, cafés, golf courses, and racetracks—all remnants of this golden era—bear witness to this exceptional intangible heritage.
Vichy , thermal city
Three thermal care and wellness establishments: Vichy Célestins Spa, Les Dômes, and Callou, offering thermal treatments, fitness programs, and à la carte care.
tourism
Its palaces, villas, and grand hotels, its parks and promenades, its springs and thermal establishments, its casino legacies of the spa culture, its shops, and its gentle way of life make Vichy a renowned destination.
culture in vichy
“The opera house, a true gem of Art Nouveau style, unique in France, and the Valéry Larbaud Cultural Center offer a rich and varied program throughout the year.
The Valéry Larbaud Media Library, the Etoile Palace Cinema, the museums, and the open-air concerts complement the cultural offerings.”
sport in vichy
Vichy is a must-visit destination for sports enthusiasts, both professionals and amateurs, with high-quality facilities: a 120-hectare multi-sports center, unique in Europe, a 100-hectare water plan equipped for water sports, an ultra-modern aquatic stadium, two 18-hole golf courses, and the spa city serves as the hub for sporting events.
Thanks to exceptional sports facilities (half of Vichy’s area is dedicated to sports activities and infrastructure) and recognized experience and expertise in organizing major sports events, Vichy and its surrounding area host a dozen national and international competitions each year, as well as training camps for elite teams, including the Ironman.
